The greatest direct influence on Patricia Gailah Taylor (Pat Taylor) was the influence of her father, Lt. Col. Robert Roy Taylor, Jr, United States Army. An artist himself, Roy Taylor realized his daughter's talent early and fostered it with visits to museums throughout the world. He did everything possible to foster his daughter's talent. From the time she was a toddler, Patricia was surrounded with art supplies and constantly encouraged to draw and paint.
Since her father was career Army, the military ethos was paramount in Patricia's life. Discipline, order, and the necessity of intense effort were instilled in her directly and by example. Her parents were avid collectors of Twentieth Century modern furniture and Asian and modern art.
The second crucial influence was Austin, Texas. This Hill Country city is home to a diverse culture of cutting edge music, high tech innovation and rampant individualism. She found herself at home. In addition, her family roots lie deep in the Hill Country where her cousin Lady Bird Johnson (nee Claudia Alta Taylor) lived and established the Texas Wildflower Center.
