Self-portrait, Austin TX
Oil on paper
A self-portrait, probably in the early 80s, on 29th Street in Austin. This was painted when I had waist-length hair. The hair went away later that year, in summer, because I was working in a very hot studio, with my hair piled up on my head, and I would pour cold water on my head to stay cool. Unfortunately, because of the scorching heat, my hair ended up mildewed. Permanently. So I had to cut it off---and since then my hair has stayed short.
