Michel Michel is my great-great-great-great grandfather.
His foundry designed and created much of the famed ironwork which gives New Orleans its unique beauty and character.
He was born March 4, 1818 in France. He came to Louisiana when it was a French colony.
His foundry was established in Point Coupee parrish.
The fine wrought iron was used throughout Louisiana.
His work was shipped by boat to New Orleans, where his signature is still visible on the ironwork.
In 1881, Michel Michel was buried in the Thomas Mix tomb in St. Mary's cemetery.
